3) Love not a rebel (October 1989): La terza puntata della serie sulle donne del Nord America della Graham è la migliore, riecheggiando il familiare paesaggio della Rivoluzione Americana. The third installment in Graham's North American Woman series ( Sweet Savage Eden ) is the best, reclaiming the familiar landscape of Revolutionary America. What he does not know, however, is that blackmail has forced Amanda into espionage. The multiple misunderstandings driving the plot are developed adroitly, with the single exception of a complication involving Amanda's father, whose cruelty to her eventually is explained through a flimsy deus ex machina resolution. Graham adds a few historical figures to her cast but these portrayals (of Benjamin Franklin and George Washington) are superficial. In developing the romance element, however, Graham never falters. The bold sensuality and frankness of her descriptions convey both the physical pleasure and emotional transport of erotic love.

Her Southern pride battles her lust for the handsome Northerner she has married. Indeed, lust seems to be all that holds this couple together. Rough verbal and physical treatment of Christa seems de rigueur for Jeremy--unable to decide from moment to moment whether to display his passion via anger or seduction. Writes Christa in her journal: "He is fascinating to me, and I am compelled by him nearly as much as I am infuriated." The action unfolds fairly predictably until an 11th-hour twist makes this tale a bit more exciting and its ending less certain.
