Handsome, wealthy Ethan is 35 years old; he is beloved by community and lives alone in his Texas ranch. He keeps on dragging his dull and boring life while women stare to him with dreamy eyes but no one seems to attract his interest. But one day suddenly John, his best friend and son of the neighbouring ranch's owner, arrives half drunk to his house and discloses that Jamie, his 21 years old little brother has told their father that he’s gay, and the only answer he got was being thrown out of his home, with no money, cloths or horse (and for a Texan cowboy this is the real problem). Jamie, the child who followed them in adoration during their young hood rides; blue-eyed, happy-go-lucky Jamie whom Ethan always has seen as his younger brother ... Jamie... that now appears to Ethan under a new light, because Ethan hides a secret: homosexuality.

But differently from the boy, he has never confided to anybody, besides John and Julia (older sister of John and Jamie) his sexual preferences, and he has experienced them freely only during the University years, very far away from home. When facing the harsh countryside life where gays are not accepted, he has chosen chastity as his way of life.. But when Ethan decides to give hospitality to Jamie and shelter him, Jamie start stirring him up sexually and emotionally surprisingly Ethan finds out that people close to him were already aware of his homosexuality, but trouble arrives by other people within the community. But with Jamie’s help, Ethan will face all difficulties and finally succeed in living his life in full.

Ethan is strong, generous, kind, handsome: the perfect man every woman is wishing for, but he feels no desire for women... Afraid of the reaction of his community he has decided to give up sex., because he feels that as long as withdrawing into himself remains his own problem, he sees no reason to put so many people's lives into a turmoil. But when Jamie too starts to be involved, as well he doesn't think twice upon it and exposes himself: to his qualities also selflessness -a real perfect man. But in spite of all his perfection, it’s impossible to dislike him, he is like a great teddy bear, soft outside and rock strong inside.

Jamie is young, impulsive and outgoing - youthness itself. Full of energy, he wants to change the world like all young people dream of. He always thinks to be on the right side, and is too frank and honest to hide himself. He is a sunny boy who brings laughter light - and love - back into Ethan's life. He reminds me of an impetuous puppy that turns Ethan's life upside down, but I cannot but smile with him and of him. He is like an electric shock able to awaken Ethan out of his torpor.

Sex scenes are sweet and funny; and written in a smooth and light hearted way: in spite of the "hot" subject, this novel is never, never, awkward.

Ethan 35 anni, bello, benestante, benvoluto dalla comunità, vive solo nel suo ranch in Texas. Una vita la sua, che scorre lenta e un po’ monotona mentre le donne lo guardano sospirando da lontano e nessuna sembra attirare il suo interesse. Finché un giorno all’improvviso John, amico fraterno, figlio del proprietario del ranch accanto e suo coetaneo, arriva mezzo ubriaco a casa sua per rivelargli che Jamie, il fratello minore di 21 anni, ha dichiarato di essere gay a suo padre, e per tutta risposta è stato cacciato fuori di casa senza soldi, né vestiti, né cavallo (che per un cowboy del Texas è quasi una disgrazia!). Jamie, il ragazzino che li seguiva adorante nelle loro scorribande giovanili; Jamie dagli occhi azzurri e dal carattere allegro che Ethan ha sempre considerato come un fratello minore… Jamie… che adesso gli appare sotto sembianze del tutto nuove e conturbanti poiché Ethan ha un segreto: l’omosessualità.

A differenza del ragazzo, lui non ha mai confidato a nessuno tranne che a John e Julia (sorella maggiore di John e Jamie) le sue preferenze sessuali e le ha vissute pienamente solo durante gli anni dell’Università lontano da casa. Al confronto con la dura realtà del paese in cui vive dove i gay non sono ammessi, ha preferito la castità. Quando decide di ospitare Jamie e dargli una mano, quando Jamie lo risveglia al sesso e all’innamoramento portando la luce e il calore in casa sua, Ethan scopre che molte delle persone a lui vicine sapevano della sua omosessualità e che a loro non importa mentre i problemi arrivano da altre persone della comunità. Insieme a Jamie Ethan affronterà le difficoltà e riuscirà a vivere più liberamente e con pienezza la sua vita.

Ethan è forte, generoso, gentile, bello: l’uomo perfetto che ogni donna desidera. Ma lui non desidera le donne… timoroso della sua omosessualità, si è votato alla castità per non sconvolgere il paese. Fintanto che, il rinchiudersi crea problemi solo a lui, non vede perché deve sconvolgere la vita di tante persone. Ma quando nel suo silenzio viene coinvolto anche Jamie, allora senza pensarci due volte si espone: alle sue qualità aggiungiamo anche l’altruismo… insomma la perfezione fatta a persona. Ma nonostante tutta questa perfezione, non si riesce a trovarlo antipatico… è come un grande orso di peluche, morbido all’esterno e forte come una roccia all’interno.

Jamie è giovane, impulsivo, aperto. È la giovinezza fatta a persona. L’energia, la voglia di cambiare il mondo che hanno i giovani. Convinto di essere nel giusto, troppo aperto e onesto per nascondersi. Solare, porta la luce nella vita di Ethan. E l’amore. Fa pensare ad un cucciolo impetuoso che sconvolge la vita di Ethan, ma non si riesce a non ridere. È la scarica elettrica di cui tutti hanno bisogno per uscire dal proprio torpore.

Le scene di sesso tra i due sono uno spasso, il tema è trattato con mano leggere e felice: davvero una lettura che, nonostante l’argomento scottante, non imbarazza.
