"Christmas Love Stories"- About 20 years ago I asked my son and daughter to model for this painting. We rented a horse and sleigh in Connecticut.

They dressed up in Victorian costumes and were photographed sitting in the sleigh in various poses. We shot in the daytime, sun shining, not nighttime. This cover called for a night scene. I used the art of one of the great American illustrators, Frederick Remington, who was a master at painting night scenes to get the color of night.

"Dreaming Of You"- This book was one of the earliest books written by the famous and important Romance Writer, Lisa Kleypas. She told me that she liked the spirit expressed in this pose, especially of the heroine, modeled by the wonderful expressive, Sherry Holmes. Ms. Kleypas bought the painting.

A Christmas Present (1994)

"Midnight Angel"- What I found interesting in composing this painting was that the woman is placed in the supporting position. This is very unusual for a historical romance cover, where she is usually the one being supported, more as in classical ballets. Of course, in real life women are most often living the supporting role.

"Because You're Mine"-Bare-chested muscular models seem to be desired for so many of these romance covers. However, the main ingredient is the emotion expressed; compassion, desire and caring, which is present in this painting. On the original painting there is more background of water lilies, muted trees and a stone manner house adding to the atmosphere as a compliment to the couple.

"Someone To Watch Over Me"- I don't have any proofs left of this cover, but I have the original painting. One of the models I have frequently used was John D'Salvo. He had the right look and body build that was desired in many of these romances and on many of my covers.

"When Dreams Begin"-Once again, I used an aerial view to enable me to immerse the couple within a bed of flowers. In addition to the romantic beauty of flowers, I also used them as a device to cover up areas that I thought unattractive, such as the position of the man's legs.

"Suddenly You"- (outside) The power of suggestion in this cropped cover design is very effective. It evokes the feeling of mystery and romance. The subtle, seductive relationship of the light pale and cool color of the skin tones against the pinks and reds of the dress and background are more vibrating in the original painting than the reproduction on the cover could capture.

"Suddenly You”( inside) - The reference for this garden is one I have used for a few of my other illustrations. Of course, variations are required because the circumstances are always different. On an inside cover the important subjects are placed on the right side, so when the reader opens the book one sees this first.
