Iraq is a dangerous place for Marines to fall in love. Far from her Navajo family and the homelands that hold her heart, Jessica finds a warrior. Brian is strong and resolute. When he looks at Jessica, he sees a woman who is strong, a woman who would respect and nurture the land as he does. Jessica reminds him of home. She’s the kind of woman he can build a life with, a life filled with love. Jessica trusts him, and knows that nothing can happen to her while he is watching over her. Almost against her will, she finds herself falling in love.

But Jessica and Brian are Marines, working in a war zone, and enemies surround them. A roadside bomb was planted under their convoy. Brian saw the IED. He raced to save Jessica and her best friend Cheri. Jessica and Brian were reaching for each other when the bomb exploded.

Months pass before they meet again, at the hospital in Bethesda. Though both are seriously injured, the love that had flowered between them flares bright with passion, and they reach out again, determined this time to save each other, and to have the life together they were meant to have.
