Speak no Evil (2007)

Eighteen year old college student Angela Vance went with him because she thought he was safe but at his place he tied her to his bed, glued her mouth shut, tortured, raped and killed her. He dumped her body and when the police find her they have no evidence linking her to a killer except the man that reported her missing. Thirty-nine year old Steve Thomas who had sex with the young woman knew something was wrong when she didn’t write in her online diary describing in graphic detail her sexcapade. Steve immediately calls his brother sheriff Nick Thomas of Bozeman, Montana asking him to come to San Diego to help him. He arrives and meets with the sexy lead detective Carina Kincaid who takes an immediate liking to him. When another college teen is killed in the same manner and evidence points away from Steve, Nick volunteers his services because he has been on the receiving end of a serial killer’s actions. As the two law enforcement officials work together they find themselves falling in love but their relationship has to be put on the back burner because another college student is killed and shortly thereafter a fourth girl is kidnapped. The killer is calculating and if he isn’t caught many more lives will be lost. This police procedural romance is full of action and gives the reader an interesting look at an ongoing investigation. Allison Brennan has a distinct voice that lends itself to creating characters that are dedicated people trying to do the best they can. The protagonists look at themselves as ordinary people trying to do a job but they are heroes because they risk their lives to save others. The fast paced story keeps readers immersed in the tale until the last page is turned. (Harriet Klausner)

La studentessa universitaria diciottenne Angela Vance va con lui perchè pensa che sia lui sia normale ma a casa lui la lega al letto, le tappa la bocca, la tortura, la stupra e la uccide. Butta il suo corpo e quando la polizia la trova non hanno nessun indizio che la colleghi al killer eccetto l'uomo che ha segnalato la sua scomparsa. Il trentanovenne Steve Thomas che ha fatto sesso con la giovane donna sa che qualcosa sta andando male quando lei non scrive nel suo diario on line descrivendo in dettagli grafici le sue scappatelle sessuali. Steve chiama immediatamente il fratello sceriffo Nick Thomas di Bozeman, Montana chiedendogli di venire a San Diego per aiutarlo. Lui arriva e incontra il sexy detective capo Carina Kincaid che incomincia subito a trovarlo piacevole. Quando un'altra adolescente universitaria viene uccisa nello stesso modo e gli indizi si allontanano da Steve, Nick si presta volontario perchè è stato oggetto di una delle azioni del killer. Mentre i due ufficiali di polizia lavorano insieme scoprono di starsi innamorando ma la loro relazione deve essere messa da parte perchè un'altra adolescente universitaria viene uccisa e poco dopo una quarta ragazza viene rapita. Il killer sta calcolando e se non viene catturato molte altre vite andranno perse. Questo romance poliziesco è pieno di azione e da al lettore un interessante prospettiva sullo svolgimento delle indagini. Allison Brennan ha una voce chiara che la porta a creare dei personaggi che sono persone dedicate a cercare di fare il meglio che possono. I protagonisti guardano a se stessi come persone semplici che cercano di fare il loro lavoro ma sono degli eroi perchè rischiano le loro vite per salvare gli altri. Il ritmo veloce della storia tiene i lettori immersi nel racconto fino all'ultima pagina. (Harriet Klausner)

See no Evil (2007)

In San Diego Emily Chandler Montgomery hates her creep of a stepfather, Judge Victor Montgomery. The teen knows he is a hypocrite espousing family values except at home and her mother is only interested in her image as an icon on the charity circuit. The only blood member who cares about Emily is her paternal Aunt Julia Chandler, a Deputy DA. When someone murders Victor in their home by cutting off his penis and shoving it down his throat, Police Detective Will Hooper assumes Emily with some friends killed her stepfather and then tried suicide. Julia hires defense lawyer Iris Jones whom she has opposed in court and asks former cop turned private investigator Connor Kincaid to help her prove her niece’s innocence. Connor prefers to say no to the woman who got him kicked off the force, but as he did once before for Emily he agrees to help. SEE NO EVIL, the sequel to the first Kincaid tale SPEAK NO EVIL (with HEAR NO EVIL coming next month) is a terrific romantic mystery. The prime legal-private investigative story line is fast-paced and filled with action on several levels this subplot brings out the key cast from the niece to her aunt to the investigator as well as the lawyer and mom so that the audience appreciates the functional and dysfunctional interrelationships. Though the romance between Julia and Connor is deftly handled to enhance the tale, it still intrudes on a great legal-private investigative thriller. (Harriet Klausner)

L'adolescente sa che lui è un ipocrita che vanta i valori della famiglia tranne che a casa e sua madre è solo interessata alla sua immagine come un icona nel circolo delle opere di carità. L'unico parente che si preoccupa di Emily è la zia paterna Julia Chandler, un deputato. Quando qualcuno uccide Victor nella loro casa tagliandoli il pene e spingendoglielo in gola, il detective della polizia Will Hooper deduce che Emily con alcuni amici ha ucciso il suo patrigno e poi tentato il suicidio. Julia assume l'avvocato difensore Iris Jones che è stata sua oppositrice in tribunale e chiede all'ex poliziotto ora diventato investigatore privato Connor Kincaid ad aiutarla a provare l'innocenza di sua nipote. Connor preferisce dire di no alla donna che lo ha fatto buttare fuori dalla polizia, ma come aveva già fatto una volta per Emily acconsente ad aiutarla. See No Evil, il seguito del primo racconto di Kincaid, Speak No Evil (con Hear No Evil che esce il prossimo mese) è un grande mistery romantico. La storia dell'investigatore privato è al cardio palma e piena di azione a differenti livelli con una trama che evidenzia il cast dalla nipote alla zia all'investigatore così come l'avvocato e la mamma in modo che il pubblico apprezza la funzionalità e la disfunzionalità delle relazioni personali. Sebbene la storia d'amore tra Julia e Connor sia abilmente gestita per esaltare il racconto, tuttavia si intromette in un grande thriller del genere legale-investigatore privato. (Harriet Klausner)

Fear no Evil (2007)

Five years ago, FBI Agent Kate Donovan and her partner Paige were after Trask who has been putting on shows on the internet for $50,000 a pop for users who want to see a woman raped, tortured, or killed. Paige and Kate thought they have himcornered but they have no back-up as was promised. Trask kidnaps and kills Paige, and kills Kate’s lover. For the next five years she has used all her computer and hunting skills to find him. Five years later Trask is still putting on his shows and his latest victim is Lucy Kincaid. Lucy’s brother Dillon a psychiatrist and he his brother Jack track Kate to her mountain hideaway in Mexico. Dillon persuades Kate to let them help her find Lucy before the time limit is up. Working together Dillon and Kate realize they are falling n love, but first they have to save Lucy and catch Trask two situations that could end in their deaths. FEAR NO EVIL is a tense romantic suspense thriller in which the relationship between the two heroes is beautifully woven throughout the save Lucy storyline. Allison Brennan rotates perspectives between several characters, allowing readers to know what motivates them. The author cleverly imbues in the plot the danger of meeting someone from an online site and emphasizes the point subtly and cleverly several times throughout the latest Kincaid war against evil tale. Allison Brennan gira le prospettive tra i diversi personaggi, permettendo ai lettori di conoscere le loro motivazioni. L'autore chiaramente impregna la trama del pericolo di incontrare qualcuno da un sito online e enfatizza i punto sottolmente e sagacemente diverse volte nell'ultimo racconto della guerra di Kincaid contro la malvagità.
